It All Started with a Camping Trip - Our Story
Our young company history begins with a camping trip by Ladd Lougee, co-founder of Strongback Mobility AG. Here Ladd experiences something that millions of campers in this country are familiar with: the camping chair is not really comfortable, and after a few hours of sitting there is pain in the back and neck.
His idea: to develop a new, comfortable camping chair that differentiates itself from conventional models. Said and done! The innovative camp chair, Strongback Chair was launched on the US market in 2010. But the story doesn't end there.
Ladd Lougee has noticed over the years that users of standard wheelchairs adopt a similar unhealthy posture as users of low-quality camping chairs. The idea was born to change this in the long term. Two years and several prototypes later, Ladd and co-founder Dr. Christian Grothe developed the first ergonomic STRONGBACK wheelchair.

The company's revolutionary approach to design meant that STRONGBACK products received the notable German Design Award in both 2018 and 2020.
